Arrangements for the funeral of Vera Parton

Friday 26th June 2020 3.30pm

Redditch Crematorium

Vera’s family attended a ceremony at Redditch crematorium on 26th June to say goodbye to her.

Sadly due to the current coronavirus pandemic, funerals are being limited to close family members only in a crematorium, so the service was restricted.

A live webcast of the service however was available for those people who are unable to attend, and is now available to view for another 28 days.

To access the webcast follow the link to the Obitus website and input the username and password details below.

Vera Parton

Vera’s family have asked that no flowers are sent; instead donations in Vera’s memory, if wished, should be sent to St Mary’s Hospice. St Mary’s cared so well for Vera in her last few weeks and they urgently need funds to maintain their service.

Donations can be made online by following this link

Please share this link with anyone you feel should be aware of Vera’s funeral.

Vera’s family welcome any tributes, words of remembrance and stories about her so do feel free to leave any messages at the bottom of this webpage. (Please note comments are moderated so do not go live immediately)

We moved into number 81 All Saints Road in June 1999. For the past 21 years, we enjoyed the good company of Vera as our next door neighbour. Vera was such a kind, caring lady that we will remember her for the rest of our lives. There used to be a holly tree standing in front of the house covering the narrow path between No 79 and No 81. My wife (Kathy) and I decided to take it down one day because we noticed that the tree blocked sunlight to Vera’s front window. It took us a day to uproot the tree. The next morning, we found a handwritten note in our porch. It came from Vera saying that she was a bit concerned that we fell her tree without asking her. I immediately spoke to Kathy: “you know what? The tree that we dug out yesterday is not ours, it belongs to Vera!”
We owe Vera more than just a tree. We deeply appreciate all the help from Vera over the years. She looked after our house so that we could spend worry free holidays abroad with the kids. It has been a privilege to have Vera living next door to us for 21 years.

I first met Vera over 30 years ago when she would sometimes come and collect Mathew, her beloved Grandson from me. Always making sure I had put his ‘sunglasses ‘ (without lenses ) !! in his little bag.

Vera was always calm and gentle with such a loving and humorous nature.

Over many years Vera loved accompanying Martina and myself on our many outings to Ragley Hall with our Childminding Children. She was so engaging with them and loved the fun.

In later years Vera joined in the ‘Jollies’, Martina , myself, sometimes Halina and Gillian, took to Stratford on the train, then walking that distance through the town, via the Barges, etc , always with a happy little one in each hand, to the sand pit and play area to enjoy a well earned picnic. Perfect Grandmother role model – known by the children as “Nanny Vera”. They loved her. I so appreciate all of those very happy memories Vera.
Personally, Vera was a role model to me, especially in the way she lived out her ‘Autumn ‘ years. If I could emulate a 1/4 of that I will be very content.
Your capacity to love and enjoy life and keep so ‘with it’ and ‘engaged ‘ was amazing, that’s what I mean, ….you led by your wisdom and example.
Thank you Vera, for your love that you shared with me , I loved you too. Always in our Hearts.??

    Dear Nanny Vera,
Thank you for all the happy memories and always looking after me. My favourite memory (of which there are so many) is when I dressed up as an evacuee to go to the Transport Museum and you told me all of your stories about when you were in the war a when you were evacuated. You were amazing at telling stories. I will miss you.
    Lots of love, Jake

We feel lucky to have had Vera as our children’s Birmingham Nanny. Through them, we gained a special friend. We will always remember Nanny Vera’s energy and warmth that shone through in everything she did. Our walks to the High Street will never quite be the same. Thank you for the special memories.

“Nanny Vera” will be missed. Maddie has such lovey memories of going to visit her or Vera going with Martina to playgroups when she was little. We will never be able to walk past her house on All Saints Road without thinking of her. A remarkable lady xx

Vera will be missed very much by the Murphy Family. She always made Ray, Paul, Chris & myself feel welcome in her home. She was a fantastic Cook & would happily share recipes with me. She had a fantastic sense of humour- at every visit we would have a laugh together. She really was an amazing Lady. Rest in Peace Dear Vera. We all love you. Ann Xx

Vera was warm, kind and welcoming, she also had a great sense of humour and knew just the right thing to say in any situation. Growing up I was lucky enough to spend many a Friday night at Vera’s house, tagging along as Kate’s (ever hungry) best friend and joining them for their weekly chicken & chips dinner – what a treat! I have so many great memories full of laughter with Kate, Matthew and their lovely Nan. You will be missed so much but thank you for being such a wonderful presence in everyone’s life. Rest in peace Vera xxx
