My husband, though frail, died unexpectedly at home. We suddenly needed help and looking on the internet liked the ethos of A Natural Undertaking. Fran was so kind and supportive when we rang that morning. She and Suzy came to collect my husband a few hours later. Giving our sons and me enough time to say our first goodbyes. Reassuring us that my husband would be safe. A few days later our daughter, son and I met with Suzy at their office. Suzy was incredibly sensitive to our feelings and took care to get to know us as a family, including making suggestions to help our grandsons aged 4, 6, 9 and 11 process losing Grandad. A comforting soft toy was made and delivered by two of the grandsons to Suzy to place with Grandad in his coffin. Suzy visited us to get to know us to make planning the funeral personalised. She also recommended a celebrant to match the family dynamics.All this care resulted in a very unique and personal celebration. Suzy’s suggestion of inviting everyone to place flowers from their gardens in the flower band around the coffin created a unique stunning and joyous image . It gave everyone a way to contribute as well as a closeness to my husband, it was as if he was in our garden. So many said they had never been to such a beautiful and special celebratory funeral. Suzy is still supporting me. Helping to manage my husbands ashes. Our children are asking me to make sure A Natural Undertaking has all the information needed for when I eventually pass.

Carrie and her team have just organised my husband's funeral.
I chose A Natural Undertaking after attending 3 family funerals they'd previously organised and I couldn't have been more pleased. Carrie was so easy to talk to at the most painful time, she listened and she heard. I had a couple of quirky things that I felt were important to us as a family and Carrie made them happen.
There was nothing maudlin about my husband's day, it was a day to remember and celebrate him and that was what he wanted.

From the moment I rang and Suzy answered the phone, I immediately felt confident that they would take great care of my dear friend Phillip. Throughout the whole process, they balanced professionalism and respect with genuine warmth and kindness. I felt completely supported and guided, while still remaining in control at every stage. I want to thank Suzy and team for their support during a very difficult time for our family. From the moment we first contacted A Natural Undertaking, right up until the moment we said our final goodbye, Suzy was professional, supportive, and went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met. Fran, Suzy and the team looked after my brother so we could see him before transferring him to London for his send off. They are just the kindest, most patient and caring ladies I could've hoped to meet in such sad circumstances. Fran took such wondeful care of my brother, washing his hair while taking care not to ruin his curls although we never even mentioned this to her, this was just her own thoughtfulness which I was so very grateful for. She dressed him with care and the room where we saw him was just beautiful. We didn't feel rushed, it was so peaceful, I felt tucked away so I got to say everything I wanted to say to my precious brother without feeling self conscious. I would not hesitate to use their services again in future as I know I would be well supported. Thank you so much Fran and your wonderful team xxx

We were introduced to A Natural Undertaking after my uncle saw them in an online video, and choosing them was one of the best decisions we could have made during such a heartbreaking time.
From the very first contact, Fran and Suzie were absolutely incredible. Their kindness, reassurance, and genuine care made what could have been an overwhelming and traumatic experience feel far more manageable. We felt supported every step of the way.
They helped us create a truly personal and meaningful service for my dad — something that reflected who he really was, rather than just a generic “standard” funeral. They came up with so many thoughtful ideas, including placing a band around the coffin so that everyone could add their own flowers and have a personal moment, and even allowing my wife to wood-burn my dad’s name plate for the coffin. These touches meant more to us than words can say.

A neighbour recommended A Natural Undertaking and they were so warm, supportive and professional to me and my sons. Carrie was lovely and talked with us about what we wanted and she organised everything superbly. She recommended a Celebrant who was also excellent and although we had been dreading the funeral it all went really well and was a beautiful celebration of my husbands life.
I can’t praise this company enough as they are so caring and they made the whole process so much easier for us all.

I am hugely appreciative of the care, humanity, and time Fran and everyone at A Natural Undertaking have had whilst stewarding us through the process of a funeral and cremation.
From the first phone call I knew they were the right choice! We were empowered to make decisions, think about everything and providing the low fuss funeral as per Duncan's wishes.
Fran reccomended the perfect celebrant (shout out to Kathy Day), ensured we had the right flowers with a nice touch, and accomadated our requests. All whilst ensuring ethics and sustainability are at the heart of their business- something important to me.
They approach death with listening ears, supportive words, and without fear - we were people in the early stages of grief and loss and A Natural Undertaking were the first people to make me smile and feel human.

When dad passed away in September, we were handed a booklet by the hospital which featured a number of adverts for funeral directors. A Natural Undertaking immediately stood out as an alternative to the traditional, more corporate firms. We'd seen their premises many times over the years and knew we wanted to contact them. From the first phone call when Fran talked us through what was going to happen, we instantly felt we were in safe hands. Carrie then took over and was always available to provide support, advice and updates. When we met her to talk through our ideas over a cup of tea it was warm, informal and friendly. It was really comforting to know that he was there and was being cared for by the team who are passionate about what they do.

Carrie and team were so professional and caring when mum died. From the moment they first arrived to pick up mum they put us at ease - no scary black morning suits just normal people doing their job with complete calmness and efficiency. My mum didn’t want ‘a funeral’ - she was very clear about that - they worked with us to provide exactly the requests that mum had defined. We were able to deliver mums wishes exactly as she wanted. The team were outstanding from start to finish. We had a reply to our initial email within a couple of hours. We met with Suzy who couldn’t have been kinder to us. She was sympathetic and understating but also practical and supportive to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. The openness and honesty meant the world to me, to know my mom really was being looking after. The work that the team did behind the scenes to support mom was incredible and I’ll be forever grateful to xander for the work he did which meant so much. The whole process was made that little bit easier and we had a beautiful farewell that my mom deserved! We contacted Natural Undertaking 12 months ago to learn more about this very different funeral company. And when we needed them on the death of my husband Ken in August, they took all the strain and anxiety out of the arrangements that needed to be made.
Fran, Carrie and Suzi are so special. It’s like we were dealing with close friends who had all the time to answer questions and find solutions. Always at the end of the phone and on one occasion going well out of business hours to sort a problem. . All done with kindness, consideration and patience.

Suzy and everyone at A Natural Undertaking were perfect during the immensely stressful time we experienced when we lost our beloved brother and son. Kind, thoughtful and very adaptable to our needs, they supported and guided us through the process, offering advice and imaginative solutions as we designed the perfect send off for him. There was never any pressure or expectations placed on us, communication lines were always open and we were always kept informed as events unfolded. Everything was clear and transparent and it was easy to build a trusting relationship between us the family and A Natural Undertaking. It never felt that we were organising a rigid or pre-packaged funeral, but one that suited our needs and honoured our brother and his preferences. A natural undertaking made making the arrangements for my sisters cremation as pleasant as possible in the saddest of times. From the moment we contacted them to picking up her ashes we were treated sensitively and with compassion. My sister didnt want a ‘funeral’ and we were given options where the family could say goodbye without it having a funereal atmosphere. The white nissan leaf car that was used to take my sister to the crematorium did not make the heart sink like a black hearse. Dealing with the all female staff was comforting as I felt I could relate to them. All the time my sister was with them i felt confident that she would be well looked after. I wouid highly recommend using them.

The whole experience of my late husbands natural funeral and burial was peaceful and beautiful thanks to the guidance of Fran my undertaker. The funeral was tailor made to meet our families ideas of what my hubbie would have wanted. Family and friends had a workshop to decorate a cardboard coffin with appropriate images and flowers were added at the grave side. The experience certainly helped the family process their sad loss in a calmer way.

My husband has left his body for medical research and wanted the people who knew him to 'have a good lunch' rather than a funeral. Thanks to Carrie and Selly Oak Quakers I managed both - an inspiring Memorial Meeting followed by some excellent food. I didn't have to think about the lunch - Carrie ordered the meal from Milan in Stoney Lane and organised it all for me. It was a very special occasion where people (some of whom had travelled a long way to be there) were able to meet, mix, share stories about Eric and give thanks for his life. Carrie also arranged for the design and printing of material about Eric's life which I know has been widely appreciated by those who could come and those who couldn't. Carrie was serene throughout but I know her legs were paddling fast beneath the still waters. Thank you Carrie.

I recently found myself having to arrange my husband Andy’s funeral at a time when I had become his wife and then his widow within a matter of weeks and at a relatively young age. The prospect of dealing with his funeral arrangements in this situation and when I had not even had time to process his diagnosis, let alone his death, was daunting to say the least.
When I first looked at A Natural Undertaking’s website, I felt instinctively that they would be the right people to support me with this most difficult of tasks. Since then, Fran and her team have proven over and over again that it was the right decision.
I cannot thank Fran enough for her compassion, support, advice, suggestions, recommendations and amazing organisational skills right from my very first contact with her. This continued right up to the day itself, which I would not have been able to get through without Fran’s support. She has been a reliable and reassuring presence during what has been the hardest time in my life.

Fran put together the funeral of my son-in-law. She gently supported my daughter giving her options she had not thought about and responding quickly to every question and request asked of her. She gave guidance when appropriate, was completely flexible in her approach, willing to change things at short notice even up to the actual funeral day.
Her emotional support throughout the whole process was unwavering. My daughter travelled next to her husband on his last journey in the non traditional white Nissan with Fran driving and supporting. It was a beautiful funeral remarked on by all who attended.

I lost my sister earlier this year to an unexpected and terminal illness. I asked Carrie and her colleagues at A Natural Undertaking to take care of the funeral arrangements for my sister, as I was aware of the more personal approach, which lies at the centre of all their service. The circumstances were slightly complicated as my sister passed away in hospital in Manchester and both A Natural Undertaking and I are Birmingham based and the funeral service would take place in Derbyshire. However, none of this was a problem and all the necessary logistics were taken care of seamlessly. I cannot stress how much importance A Natural Undertaking place on their sympathetic and personal approach to dealing with individuals and families in the midst of grief and loss. At every stage they ask exactly what individuals want from the process and go to great lengths to make sure that the wishes of the deceased are also honoured. Carrie and her team looked after every aspect of the process for us and helped with all the formalities but – even more importantly – helped with the emotional process to enable us to give my sister the funeral service that we wanted for her.

I couldn’t imagine a more compassionate and professional firm to deal with the whole management of my mother’s funeral. Right from day 1 they provided advice and assurance on everything, from speaking to the coroners office, to helping shape a completely personal service which was absolutely fitting to the individual who was being remembered. Simply put, I could not have done it without them. To have Carrie there on the day of the cremation was such assurance and it went off without a hitch. The 5* rating should be 6* I recommend them so highly.

I cannot recommend A Natural Undertaking enough. The support they offered during such a difficult time was exceptional. They made themselves available to us whenever we had any questions and they provided such a high level of care to us as a family and to Mum. Hard to put into words the support we had whilst planning a funeral for a 25 year old. We wanted something unique to him. The team supported this every step of the way with their knowledge and experience. They looked after my son prior to the funeral in such a kind compassionate way. My other son visited his brother almost daily.

Losing my mum was difficult enough without the added challenge of organising her funeral. But from the very first phonecall with Fran, her empathy and down to earth approach provided my dad and I with an immediate sense that we were in the right hands. She helped demystify a process that frankly would have been a struggle to navigate ourselves, supporting us every step of the way be that through matching us up with a celebrant (who was great), accommodating our often vacillating opinions, to creating a web page and slideshow, and providing a lovely space for us to come and visit my mum. The end result was a service, or rather a celebration, of my mum that I shall forever remember with a smile. We lost our mother in November and decided to use A Natural Undertaking as I had previously been to a funeral directed by them and was impressed. I must say they went above and beyond throughout the whole process which helped us greatly in our grief. The funeral was january 8th the most bespoke beautiful final farewell to our beautiful mom which was exactly what she deserved you helped us do her proud Thank you so much. A friend recommended A Natural Undertaking, a friend who is very hard to please. He wasn’t wrong to recommend them. Carrie has such a warm and caring character, she is just perfect for taking all of the stress and worry out what is a very emotional and challenging time. Not sure where I start to express how ‘ A Natural Undertaking ‘ helped me through the most difficult time. They put their arms around me, physically and emotionally. Helped me beyond any expectations I may have had from a funeral director. Nothing was too much trouble, even helped resolve my IT issues.

Fran and Suzy were angels born to arrange funerals. We needed an undertaker close to our home in Kings Heath. We found them on the internet. From the moment we met them, they made us feel we had made the right choice. Both beautiful women liaised with my son and we all felt the VIP treatment shown and given to us. They treated my husband of 53 years as if he was still alive calling him Edmund instead of deceased. The whole funeral was arranged very efficiently and all the people attending said how lovely it was. I can never ever thank the ladies enough. If ever you need an excellent funeral home please use them. They take a burden of your shoulders with their excellent execution in everything that is needed. God bless them.

I really can’t give the ladies at A Natural Undertaking a high enough review, Fran and the team were absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much trouble in the care of my son Fraser ..from multiple viewings from many members of family and friends to managing an escort of 200 motorcycles to the crematorium. Everything we needed as a family, support, a hug, advice was always there and the surroundings were perfect to make you feel comfortable. I am so very pleased that we found and chose A Natural Undertaking to arrange mum's funeral service. They were professional, compassionate, supportive and diplomatic throughout and gave good advice. Suzy looked after mum from start to finish and obviously genuinely cares about the service offered. Suzy visited us at home and gave us many helpful ideas and guided us when unsure, making things as easy as possible for us and took a weight off our minds. Equally, their office is light and bright so it did not feel claustrophobic when we had some time sitting with Mum in her casket. The white wicker casket was beautiful and the natural flowers very appropriate.
Suzy was easy to contact and responded very quickly to any queries. We chose a white electric hearse which was obviously quiet and reverential.
We felt fully supported throughout the whole process and could not have asked for anything more. Thank you so much for offering such a vital service with such compassion at a time when people so need your support.

A Natural Undertaking was recommended to me for my husband’s funeral. I am so grateful - my daughter and I were really happy with the care and attention we received from Suzy. Nothing was too much trouble for her, from the first meeting to the day of the funeral. The service turned out to be exactly what we wanted – non-traditional and personal to our family. We were so pleased to have found A Natural Undertaking for Mum's funeral which took place this week and would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone. A loved one's funeral is so important and the team were able to help us achieve the personal and relaxed one we had hoped for. Carrie came to meet us to make initial arrangements and that made the process so much easier too. They assisted with choice of celebrant and Kathryn Day was also wonderful, both before and on the day. Their web page link is also such a good way of being able to communicate information to friends and family prior to the funeral. Finally, the little white Nissan Leaf was just the right choice. Frans calm, reassuring, knowledgeable advice and support helped us on so many levels throughout the whole process after unexpectedly losing my mum. Fran & her team - what a find! I had a bespoke structure in my mind for my adored husband’s funeral not knowing if some of it would be possible. A Natural Undertaking made it all possible. Their advice, suggestions & overall approach (calm, quiet, compassionate & empathetic without being in the slightest bit obsequious) illustrated the way forward regarding funeral planning without a doubt. Bern’s Celebration of Life was perfect. “The Celebration by which all others will be measured” & “The best funeral I have ever been to” are just two from a large number of similar comments I received during the days that followed his funeral. Their “non corporate” premises provided an intimate & comfortable environment in which to talk about Bern which made us (myself & Bern’s daughter) feel 100% comfortable in the knowledge that he was in good & caring hands & not just a monetary figure on the bottom profit line. Independent & unique - I cannot recommend them highly enough - they were brilliant!

It is difficult to write a review for such a sad and devastating time as the loss of a loved one but I felt it important to do so as this company, and Fran in particular, were invaluable to my family and I during the most difficult time. If this review helps to direct someone else to their service, and their support, then it is worth it. Fran was not only efficient, knowledgeable and practical in all of her help but treated us all with the most dignity and care. I can safely say that if felt like we were being supported by family. Nothing was too much trouble. Home visits really helped my children be involved, and all options were considered to make my husbands send off personalised, warm and filled with love. I cannot thank them enough.

We lost our 30 year old son to a motorbike accident in September and our World fell apart. It was a family member who recommended A Natural Undertaking and I'm so glad she did. We contacted Fran and Carrie after looking at their website. They were very responsive and were happy to make their service fit in with what we wanted for our daughter. Perhaps more importantly, we had confidence that they would properly look after our daughters body. Carrie and Fran have built a business that feels genuinely different. They were warm, friendly and very responsive. They wanted to help us create the funeral that was right for our family, and to remember Dad in our warm and slightly quirky way. They even indulged us with the custard jokes. A Natural Undertaking is an undertakers with a difference. No stuffy offices with men in black suits. Just lovely helpful and caring people. Lots of choices were available and nothing was too much trouble. We did not feel pressurised or rushed into making decisions. Our whole experience was dealt with total empathy and efficiency. We were so thankful for all that Carrie, Zed and Fran did to help us through the period following the devastation of Oliver's death. The sense that they really empathised with the pain of what we were going through and their way of guiding us, while encouraging us to do what was most helpful and most reflected Oliver's life was so empowering. You can't re-do a funeral! It was so important to us that it was 'right' and they made that easier at a time when we were struggling to think clearly. Carrie, Fran and everyone at A Natural Undertaking were fantastic in arranging my Mum's funeral. Carrie was keen right from the start to make sure that everything was just so, despite the fact that we were working on a budget. Everything was clear and well explained (in fact, from beginning to end, communication was exemplary). Fran was fantastic in putting together the order or service as well. They communicated with all of the relevant parties, such that everything came together seamlessly.

From our first meeting with Fran to the day of our son's funeral, we were treated with care, empathy, dignity and understanding. The whole team at A Natural Undertaking, Fran, Zed and Carrie, paid attention to the smallest of details in the planning of his funeral, carefully explaining everything to us in a way which was clear but sensitive. Their handling of the arrangements ensured that he had a beautiful and fitting send off. We could not have been given a better level of care, and we would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to give their loved one a unique, individually tailored farewell.

We would like to congratulate Fran and Cassie for looking after our dear friend Joan.
From the start to finish the care, kindness and attention to detail was second to non.
We were given help and support with all the arrangements and we felt that the stress, of loosing a loved one so suddenly, had been taken off our shoulders.
They helped to turn the day into a wonderful tribute to Joan.

The service provided by a Natural Undertaking was perfect.
Fran and Carrie advised and guided us through both the process and the decisions that we needed to make for my father’s funeral with thought and understanding. They advised us what was possible and made constructive suggestions without pressure. They then calmly undertook the organisation of the service itself with calm efficiency despite late inputs from ourselves. The resulting service was both personal and appropriate to say goodbye to my father from myself, our family and his friends.
I was specifically appreciated that Carrie found time to discuss in general the workings of the undertaking business which one at other times have little time or inclination to investigate. It certainly helped me during this time.

Carrie and Fran are amazing! Nothing is too much trouble for them and they go the extra mile to make sure that people get exactly the funeral they want. We had a big funeral at Cambridge Road Methodist Church and wanted to use a YouTube clip of my husband playing the Birmingham Town Hall organ which had been his special 60th birthday treat. Carrie managed to arrange an audio clip so that everyone heard Mark playing at his own funeral, which made the service really special. I know Mark would have loved the service. Thanks Carrie and Fran - I would recommend you to anyone.

Carrie and Frances bought a heart centred approach to a very sad and difficult time with the death of my brother. They organised the funeral in a week and it ran so seemlessly, so smoothly that the image I get when summing up how I feel about their services is a beautiful Swan gently gliding through water. Thier compassion, kindness and ability to listen, guide and respond softens my heart as I write this.
Their attention to detail and having everything covered was such a massive weight off the family’s shoulders. We felt completely held. It seems strange to write this but they were a breath of fresh air to what is in essence is a very difficult time. Professional, sensitive, efficient and compassionate from start to finish. Their personal, alternative and fresh approach was exactly what we wanted yet without compromising all the finer arrangement details, which were dealt with perfectly. A Natural Undertaking were recommended to us following the death of my wife, by a friend who had used them previously. From our first meeting, we felt we were in good hands with a team that could talk us through the complexities of the arrangements and discuss the range of options available to us in a personal and very caring way. Working together we planned a service that included a number of unique elements that reflected the exceptional individual who sadly we were having to lay to rest. On the day, the arrangements worked perfectly and the feedback from friends and relatives who attended has been very positive. I am so glad we worked with A Natural Undertaking - we received a very personal and caring service and the whole team were a pleasure to deal with.

As a family we decided to go forward with a direct cremation and hold our own service outside a church environment. Even though this was with our fathers wishes it is sometimes easy to think you must follow the 'traditional' route. Fran & Carrie were both supportive in helping us ensure the day was the right mix of sadness and celebration. It was the little caring things which made the difference. So if you want the right service without feeling you are still in the 1950s then Natural Undertaking will provide a first class service whether its a simple option like ours or a full bespoke option.

Right from my first phone call Fran at A Natural Undertaking was amazing. She was kind, warm and comforting at a time when that is exactly what you need. She gave me wonderful advice and made sure that we were able to create the most wonderful, individual funeral for my mum that still makes me smile when I think of it.
